Two-Time ALMS GT2 Champions Choose Michelin for Seventh Season

Sonoma-based Flying Lizard Motorsports, the two-time defending GT2 class champion, enters 2010 American Le Mans Series competition with Michelin as its technical partner for the seventh consecutive year. The Flying Lizard Motorsports – Porsche – Michelin combination has produced 15 ALMS class wins, two manufacturer, two team and two driver championships.

Facing fierce competition from factory backed BMW, Corvette, Ferrari and Jaguar teams, Flying Lizard returns with a powerful two-car team led by 2009 ALMS GT2 Driver Champions Joerg Bergmeister and Patrick Long in the #45 Flying Lizard Porsche 911 GT3 RSR and Seth Neiman and Darren Law in the #44 Porsche. Bergmeister will attempt to win his fifth ALMS Drivers’ Championship in six years while Long seeks his third title.

“We are pleased to have the opportunity to partner with Michelin for our seventh consecutive season,” said Flying Lizard team principal Seth Neiman. “Each year, Michelin continues to deliver technically advanced racing tires that perform optimally for the Porsche 911 GT3 RSR. The support of Michelin at American Le Mans Series events allows us to focus on achieving a race setup that balances tire performance and speed across a wide variety of race circuits.”

As the longtime “preferred technical partner” for Porsche worldwide, Michelin has supported 97 of Porsche’s 100 wins in American Le Mans Series competition.

“We always enjoy working with Flying Lizard Motorsports,” said Karl Koenigstein, Michelin ALMS technical team leader. “The relationship between Porsche, Michelin and the Flying Lizard team is very strong and very deep. We are all very technically focused and working together year-after-year we are able to work closely to develop new technologies and tires for consumers and for the track.”

In addition to its ALMS GT2 championships in 2009, the #44 Flying Lizard Motorsports Porsche driven by Seth Neiman and Johannes van Overbeek won the MICHELIN® GREEN® X Challenge GT category season-long championship
