Indycar.com reports that Team Penske’s Helio Castroneves, winning his first road/street course race since Infineon in August 2008 and for a series-record 10th season in a row, thanked spectators for attending the inaugural Indy Grand Prix of Alabama by climbing the safety fence in Turn 9. J.K. Vernay, starting from the pole in the No. 7 Lucas Slick Mist/Sam Schmidt Motorsports car, held off Charlie Kimball by 1.1542 seconds to win the inaugural Indy Grand Prix of Alabama on the 2.38-mile Barber Motorsports Park.
f2000championshipseries.com reports that Victor Carbone led every lap at VIR on his way to taking his first career F2000 Series victory over Australian rookie Daniel Erickson by two-tenths of a second. In race one of the series yesterday. In race two held today, Cole Morgan held off Remy Audette and capitalized on Daniel Erickson’s misfiring engine to take his first F2000 win since taking the 2007 F2000 Championship title.
Grand AM.com is reporting that Dean Martin held off a charging Billy Johnson over the final half-hour of Saturday’s Barber 200, the third round of the 2010 GRAND-AM Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge, at Barber Motorsports Park, to win with co-driver Bob Michaelian in the No. 52 Rehagen Racing Products/bizrate.com Ford Mustang GT. Memo Rojas and Scott Pruett rolled to a dominating victory in Saturday’s Porsche 250 before an estimated crowd of 25,000 at Barber Motorsports Park, while problems hit two of their traditional rivals in the battle for the GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series presented by Crown Royal Cask No. 16 Daytona Prototype championship.
